___________,
We wanted to share our thoughts regarding the upcoming school year and revisit what our precautions and protocols will be considering the ongoing concerns of COVID.
Firstly, we recognize that everyone has their own opinions and comfort level regarding how they choose to protect themselves and others. We are not interested in getting into a debate about anyone’s decisions. We are merely attempting to communicate so we can work together and do what we all feel is best for our homes.
We were made aware that you have not been vaccinated but may have to receive the vaccine due to your line of work. While our opinions on your choices hold no weight, we of course have continued concern for SS’s health and safety, especially since he is returning to school and is currently not eligible to receive a vaccine. We hope you understand that your choices impact not only him but everyone in our home. The Delta variant is harsher on children and we want to do everything we can to protect both SS and our daughter.
Judging by what is happening in other states and districts across the country, we are anticipating ongoing closures and the need to quarantine and manage childcare. We propose the following protocol:
· In the event of a known exposure, SS will remain at the house he is currently at for the duration of the recommended quarantine period. This means that even if he is scheduled to transition, he will remain at the home he is at when we learn of the exposure. Example: if he was potentially exposed on a Thursday of our week, and we learn of it on the Tuesday of yours - you would keep him through the duration of the quarantine.
The reasoning here is that symptoms usually present within 2-14 days after exposure. In an attempt to not expose both households we would want to keep SS wherever he is when we learn of the exposure.
· In the event of symptoms or a positive COVID test, SS will remain in the house he is experiencing symptoms until he receives a negative test result or recovers.
· In the event any of us are exposed or are positive, SS would not transition to the home of the exposed or symptomatic home. If SS is currently at the home where there are active symptoms, he would remain at that home as most likely he’s been exposed.
We welcome your thoughts as we attempt to have a plan that keeps both homes safe and healthy.
Thanks,
